Our names are Beth and Jeff Harvey and we want a healthier life for our son.  To assist us in achieving our goal we founded JB's Keys to DMD on JB's 2nd Birthday.

The beautiful and funny 4 year old in these pictures is our son JB.

He has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

• One in 3,200 boys are diagnosed with this disease.
• It does not have any race or cultural preference.
• DMD is the leading genetic killer of boys.

Why do people not know about this disease?

First Key: Awareness

• Boys with Duchenne are confined to wheelchairs between the ages of 8 and 12.
• They suffer cardiac and pulmonary complications in their late teens.
• They succumb to this disease by their early twenties.
• The only universally accepted medical treatment is a corticosteroid regimen. 
• This treatment only delays the inevitable.

Why is there not enough focus on quality of life?

Second Key:Fund Quality Care & Treatments

• There are not enough people looking for a cure.
• The MDA covers over thirty diseases of the muscles and gives less than 5% of their funds to DMD research. 
• Historically drug companies can not make a profit from research done only for Duchenne and often lose interest or shift their focus.
